Seeking Langley Tire Service? GRiP TiRE & Auto Murrayville can help! We are committed to providing you with personalized professional service…at a fair price.

It is our desire to keep you safe on the roads; whether locally, or while adventuring out on one of our many mountain passes in BC. Which is what we wish to discuss with our community as we enter into October – Understanding Winter Tire Requirements in BC.

Winter Tire Requirements in BC

So, what are the winter tire requirements in BC? As pointed out on the BC Government website; summer tires are NOT allowed when driving on mountain passes during the winter months. Nor are chains on summer tires allowed on BC highways that indicate winter tires are required.

What is a Legal Winter Tire in B.C.?

A legal winter tire (on a standard passenger vehicle or a four-wheel/all-wheel vehicle) MUST have at least 3.5 mm of tread depth.

A winter tire must be labelled with either of the following:

  • The letters “M” and “S”, the minimum legal requirement (mud + snow/all season tires)

They also note, and we agree, that winter and all-weather 3-peaked mountain tires tend to offer the best traction when it comes to snowy and/or icy conditions. As well, for more extreme road condition, adding in chains is also a safe idea.

As of October 1st, passenger vehicles are required to have the aforementioned winter tires installed for designated roads. And although we don’t have a lot of snow across the Lower Mainland during the winter months, we do have colder temperatures and the occasional snowfall. This makes it a wise decision to invest in M&S tires – at minimum – which we can help with.

At GRiP TiRE & Auto we are proud to offer Langley Tire Service, delivering on a large selection of quality brand name tires for your car, truck, minivan or SUV.
